| BACKGROUND |
The present administration of Obokun Local Government Ibokun, ably led by Barr. Sunday Ojo Williams came into being on 31st March 2004 as part of the positive democratic developments being witnessed in Nigeria after a long period of militarization of the polity.
The task head of the young administration as at then was enormous as far as provision of social amenities to about 2250 towns and villages in the area was concerned, coupled with the fact that the Local Government could be referred to as “Rural” given the limited social amenities, available for the teaming population.
More importantly, effective planning as far as provision of infrastructural development of the Local Government is concerned could not be based on the controversial and keenly contested 1991 census figure of 61.0990. thus, enormous tasks and responsibilities were saddled on the shoulders of the new administration .
Moreover, the Federal and State Government policies on socio-economic development of all parts of the country had to be harmonized and accommodated into the Local Government’s policies in addordance with the yearnings and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.
Otunba (Barr) Ojo Williams was categorical in his electioneering campaign as well as in the Blue Print put up to move the Local Government forward.
It is equally evident in this report that the promises were not only fulfilled but surpassed.
It is know fact that the level of socio-economic development in a significant number of Local Government in the federation has multiper effects on the overall development of the nation. thus, the young administration of Barr. Sunday Ojo Williams braced up to face this challenge by working assiduously to transform the Local Government as far as infrastructure development s concerned thereby resolving to leave the Local Government better than he met it.
As a matter of fact, the infrastructure development vis-à-vis number of viable projects that were being planned for execution could not be carried out without adequate funding, especially if the size and population of the Local Government are to be taken into consideration besides, monthly allocations from the federation account are hardly sufficient to meet our basic operational and capital project ‘execution.
However, the incumbent administration as been able to solve this problem to a reasonable extent, by its aggressive internally Generated Revenue drive, as well as good fiscal policies.
Furthermore, these noble efforts could not have achieved without the full support of the dynamic Legislative Council, Members of the Executive Council, the Traditional rulers, Executive Members of the people Democratic Party in Obokun Local Government, the Entire work force and other stake holders
